Privacy notice

How LAN Fixer handles information. Last updated 4 October 2026.

In short

LAN Fixer is a Windows application that diagnoses and repairs local network problems. We keep as little information about you as the service can be run on, we do not sell it, and we do not pass it to advertising networks.

What the web server records

Every visit leaves an entry in the web server log: the address you connected from, the time, the page requested, the response, the amount of data sent, and the browser identification your browser supplies.

From that address we work out an approximate location - city, region and country - using a copy of a geolocation database held on our own server. Your address is not sent to any outside service in order to do this. Detailed records are kept for 30 days and then removed; only counts and totals are kept after that.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and uses no third-party analytics service. The site software may set a single session cookie, which is needed for the site to function and is discarded when you close the browser.

The application itself

LAN Fixer runs on your own computer. Its scan results, device names and addresses, notes, traffic information and fix history stay on that computer, in its data folder and your browser’s local storage, and are not sent to us.

The application sends information off the computer only in these cases:

Internet-address check. At start and from time to time it asks your own router for your network’s internet address and, only if the router cannot tell, sends a short request to public STUN servers run by several different companies, which see the address the request comes from.

Vulnerability lookup. When you ask for one, the manufacturer, model and version you enter are sent to the US National Vulnerability Database.

Location database. When you ask, the application downloads DB-IP’s free location database. Addresses are then looked up on your computer and are not sent anywhere.

License activation and checks. For license activation, deactivation and the periodic check (about once a month), the license key, a non-reversible machine fingerprint, the computer’s name and the application version are sent to our licensing service at billing.clue.im.

Evaluation check-in. A copy set up for use by an organization that has no paid license sends, about once a week, the application’s identifier and version, the machine fingerprint and the evaluation dates. Personal-use copies and licensed copies do not send it.

Pages and programs you open. Opening a manufacturer’s page, a router’s own page or a remote session sends what any browser or client sends to that destination.

Each request also reveals your network address; the licensing service records it with the request. Verbose diagnostic logging, which can record addresses and names, is off unless you turn it on. Section 11 of the LAN Fixer Licence Agreement describes the same.

If you buy a license

Payment is taken by PayPal. We never see and never store your card details. To issue and support a license we keep the contact name, company, e-mail address, country and postal address given at purchase, any VAT or tax ID and purchase-order number you enter, the order and the invoice, the license key, and a record of each computer on which the key is activated: its machine identifier, computer name and application version, and when it first and last checked in. Licensing requests are logged together with the network address they come from. We keep these records for as long as they are needed to administer licenses, prevent misuse and meet our legal and accounting obligations.

If you ask for news by e-mail

You will be asked to confirm the address before anything is sent to it, and every message carries a link to stop. Addresses are never shown to other recipients and are never passed to anyone else.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent information about you. We do not use advertising networks or third-party trackers. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from their browsing.

Your rights, and how to reach us

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to software@clue.im and we will respond.
